Home Again

We are back in Texas. After spending a great week in San Francisco, Vicky and I returned to Austin feeling a bit worn out but refreshed at the same time. However, no matter how much fun it is to visit foreign lands, it is always great to return home.
You can read about our time in the City by the Bay in a series of essays under the menu item San Francisco. Therein I go into what the NatGeo workshop was like, what I did about building a laptop for the trip, general shooting in and around the Union Square area and other topics related to our trip.
We did have a super time, although San Francisco is a very expensive place to visit. It is a city in transition and the growing pains are very apparent. There are many storefronts standing empty, new buildings are going up all over, the homeless are on every street corner, and generally there is an air of change about the urban environment.
This was Vicky’s first time staying within the core of a big city and the I think the non-stop hustle and bustle surprised her. Even at 3:00am, there are people about on the streets and things going on. One night we woke up to what sounded like a person pounding on a dumpster with a sledge hammer. At 2:30 in the morning? Come on man!
It was fun though. We both over ate, looked like newbie tourists while riding the Cable Cars, visited with old friends and generally enjoyed a long overdue vacation. But it’s great to be home.
